Oh Universe…

Today is the day I choose to reflect on what is working and what isn’t working for me. Interestingly enough the Word of the Day is Balance. While that may seem easy, for someone who is always 100% into everything, and has 100 irons in the fire, it is almost impossible to do. So, I am working on what I can cut out, hand off, or postpone until such a time as I am able to actually devote time to it. One thing that has definitely suffered is my house and my husband. So cutting out a few of the … Continue reading Oh Universe…

Done!

Or so the cards all told me today. This morning both Judgment and The World appeared, right after Networking was the word of the day. All 3 of these cards revolve around starting something new. Stating that I have finished a cycle and need to stretch out and reach beyond those I see everyday. So I suppose that means I need to be looking for what has finished (as it wasn’t super obvious), and begin peering into the future for what it is I am going to be starting next. I did begin networking a little more this morning (before … Continue reading Done!

My Word for 2020!

Yes I know it is the trend, but I love the trend. No resolutions, although I have some goals (pretty typical ones), but I also have the word I will be keeping close to me. My word: LOOK You’re saying “What?! Heather you are crazy, how is that even a word to choose from?” Well I am here to tell you why it is what I think is going to be a great word for me. LOOK is so much more than just using your eyes. When we want someone to explain their feelings, or search for what is going … Continue reading My Word for 2020!

End of Year Reflection (short)

As I was recovering from the flu/pneumonia bout, I went back to work as it was close to finals and I was starting to miss those Seniors. In the process, they brought germs! So I was sick again. However, as I sit here over break I find that I am almost ready to recover. I need a little more sleep, a little more down time, and some more restful moments, but then I will be ready to take on 2020! I already have topics planned, for the days I am not using a daily draw card, but I am planning … Continue reading End of Year Reflection (short)

Working With Teenagers

Some days working with teenagers invigorates me and creates a sense of energy that I can use to get through several days, other times working with teenagers drains me of the energy I had to make it to the next day, leaving exhausted for days on end. Every day working with teenagers I learn something about them, myself, and the world. High school students have a unique perspective on what is happening in the world, their lives, the classroom, and even, yes, their teachers’ lives. They bring such a different look into what is going on. Today my students are … Continue reading Working With Teenagers

Create Space…and Time

So the thing is, I always find myself at a loss when someone perceives something I’ve done or said as racist or from their own inherent bias. I try, as a high school teacher especially, to make sure that I am always seeing things from as many angles and sides as I possibly can. Now I will never assume to be able to see things from a different color, that is not even possible. I do know when you come into my classroom though that you will be treated equally to everyone else. With that said, when I have to … Continue reading Create Space…and Time

Blessed Imbolc….Blessed Candlemas

Brigid has lit the way for us to begin the lighted season of our year. What a wonderful time this will. As we say goodbye to Herne for the moment, and allow him the rest he so deserves, and the candles are lit to guide the light back into the world, we are all getting ready to let go of the shadows and step into the light. If you walk a pagan/Wiccan path then today is the day to bless your candles for the year. The time to give them the energy of the beginning of the light time and … Continue reading Blessed Imbolc….Blessed Candlemas

End of the month reflection…

So, here we are, at the end of January. I am at a conference tomorrow and am not sure how much time I will have or if I will have any time to get a blog post up, so I am reflecting and writing today. It was a great month, a tough month, a look at yourself month, a begin again and then again month. In short, it was a typical January. The good thing about Januarys is that they are followed by Februarys. The shortest month of the year, the best month to keep going, because it is easier … Continue reading End of the month reflection…

Reminders…already

Today was the first day back to the real job, no students yet, but here I am, fixing up the classroom and getting ready. I teach at a school that is on a 4×4 block, meaning I have all new kids tomorrow, and new classes. So daunting to have two first days in a school year, but I’ve doing this for 7 years now, and getting used to the daunting is old hat. What I am also used to is the apathy and blah I feel when it is time, after the break, to come back. This has, unfortunately led … Continue reading Reminders…already
