The Quest Tarot

I have decided that the tarot deck to use for my Tarot Study is The Quest Tarot. This is a deck and companion book, The Compass, created by Joseph Earnest Martin. He created this deck after a renowned psychic asked him what was stopping him from doing it. Once he figured that out, the rest was his journey on this path.

I love this deck. I have had it for several years and have even done readings with it. I have never taken the time to do an in-depth study of each card in order though. This is a semi-traditional deck that also includes astrology signs, I-Ching symbols, has a Hebrew letter, a yes/no feature, the gemstone influences and the gemstone association and a rune symbol. Taking the time to study each of these cards on a deeper level will also help me to learn and understand better other aspects of divination as well.

I am excited to embark on this journey for my own learning, but also to bring you with me. Perhaps this will be a deck you decide you want to look into, or if you aren’t a tarot reader, maybe this will interest you, or if not perhaps give you some personal insight into something else.

Here is the blank card along with the front of the Comanion book.

Don’t mind the couch. It is time to get a new one. I will be taking a picture of each card as I go through, so you can see the things I refer to in my study, as well as just enjoy the art.

Today, for uplifting as I made the decision on the deck, I mixed lemon and wild orange essential oils in the diffuser. The house smells citrusy and yet you feel as if you could go to the moon and back. Uplifted and energetic…that’s what those will do for you.

I don’t have my own daily tarot card as I have done 11 readings for others in the past 2.5 days and I helped my son with some rune readings. I would leave you with the blank card. Let today be the day for reflection.

Happy Friday!

We have made it through the week!  Congratulations. Today’s oils are anxiety ease and breathe easier.  The kids are doing presentations so keeping their anxiety to a minimum and helping them take deep breaths is in order.

These are blends created by Eden’s Garden.  Anxiety ease is a balanced mixture of Sweet Orange, Ylang Ylang and Lemongrass.   Breathe Easier  is a healing mixture of Lemon, Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. The two blend so well together and the classroom smells amazing. (Eden’s Garden)

The diffuser not only helps them, but it keeps any anxiety I might be having at bay as well.  I have done a better job the last half of the week keeping the anxiety at bay.  I’m not as productive at home as I want to be, but I think that may be the cold I am fighting off.  Hubby sounds like he has pneumonia, but he assures me it’s just a chest cold with head congestion.  I am doing all I can to make sure he is sleeping, keeping the air clean and not getting sick.

I have the same blends at school that I have at home.  At home I also use an immune support blend that is amazing.  That one is made by Ho’ola oils.  It has Orange, Eucalyptus, Clove, Cinnamon and Rosemary.  It is a sweet spicy blend that keeps the immune system boosted and the house smelling wonderful. Clove is one of my favorite scents, so I use it often, especially in the bedroom. (Ho’ola Oils)

Today’s tarot: The High Priestesses: the High Priestess can help you become more connected with the rhythm of the cosmos.  She is the female principle and reflects lunar mysteries. With her at our side we can begin to acquire the awareness and knowledge that there are greater forces at work in our everyday lives.

I Did It!

Merry Meet!!

I hope your Monday is going well.  Over the weekend I managed to get the meditation/altar/exercise space cleaned and I sorted through all my clothes and got rid of 4 bags of stuff.  I am sure there is more I can do, but for now it is a start.

Everything isn’t all organized yet, that’s for the next couple of evenings when hubby is at work.  However, there is a start, and clean space on the floor, which means I can at least keep moving, get grounded and return to a state of being me. This is important!

In addition to the hours spent getting that space cleaned I managed to go look at some open houses for ideas on flooring, run to Costco and spend too much money.  On Sunday we even managed to run up to the wineries and grab our quarterly boxes, as well as find some bubbly for Mother’s Day.  All in all not a bad weekend.

I ran a diffuser with grapefruit and clary sage mixed while I was cleaning.   Grapefruit essential oil helps remind us of those life-giving and inspiring moments of our lives. Letting your toes soak into the ocean, sipping coffee on a quiet morning, landing a job or getting on a plane to an exotic location. Grapefruit’s unique properties uplift, revive and inspire healthy lifestyles (Eden’s Garden).

Clary sage is considered to be one of the top essential oils for hormones, especially in women. Many claims have been made as to its benefits when dealing with cramps, heavy menstrual cycles, hot flashes and hormonal imbalances. It’s also known for its ability to increase circulation, support the digestive system, improve eye health and fight leukemia. Clary sage is one of the most healthful essential oils, with anticonvulsive, antidepressant, antifungal, anti-infectious, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also a nerve tonic and sedative with soothing and warming components (draxe.com/clarysage).

The delightful blend of these two oils made for a perfect place to keep busy and stay focused.  I felt like I was moving forward and not stagnating, and that I was helping not only myself but my husband.  I watched The Matrix trilogy and kept that fighting, never give up mindset through the whole of the weekend.

Today’s tarot: Three of Pentacles – keyword: planning

The three of Pentacles signifies a culmination of your efforts – your planning, hard work and dedication have paid off.  But the journey continues.  what hidden surprises await you as continue forward? There is nothing to fear as you continue forward, for this card shows you are on the right path!

I Hate Lavender

Now most people would say that is a heavy statement.  I use the word hate, which of course is strong language and I could tone it down I suppose.  If I did tone it down, however, it would not convey the absolute loathing I feel when the perfumes, heavily scented with the frangrant flower billow over my senses.

By now you are wondering why I even stated this.  Why should you care?  You should care because this is a post about essential oils.  And no matter who you are, lavender is at the core of essential oils.  Not the lavender of department stores though.  No, the true essence of lavender.  That scent that reminds you of being in a field and it gently blows past, enveloping and dissipating in a matter of seconds.  This lavender, this is the heart of essential oils.

Essential oils are are non-water soluble photochemical distilled from various parts of a plant.  They are the true essence.  Eastern cultures and Native cultures discovered long ago the health benefits of those things that come from nature.  Essential oils are just one way of doing that.  There are many ways to use essential oils, if you are interested in more than just diffusing or topical uses, please do your research.  I do not ingest or mix with food, as that is information I have not done research on and am not really interested in.

That does bring me back to lavender though.  6-7 drops of a lavender essential oil dropped into a water diffuser, 3-4 drops straight on a cotton ball or mixed in a roller with a carrier oil (apricot kernel oil is my favorite) have an amazing effect on most people.  Lavender is a natural calmer.  It can help you sleep, it can ease anxiety, it can help bring high tension down to natural levels.

We diffuse it downstairs at night for the dogs.  Yep, for the dogs.  Our Newfoundland can be a little high strung when none of her people around, and they sleep in the living room. I discovered that a little lavender essential oil in the diffuser, which is in the dining room, dissipates enough through the downstairs to help her sleep through the night.  I do not have it directly where she is because the effects of heavy doses is not known on animals, so I have it away from them, where she can get the benefits of it simply being there, without harming her.

If I am traveling and can’t take a diffuser, I will take some cotton balls and a small vial of lavender, and right before I go to bed I will put some lavender on a cotton ball and tuck it under my pillow.  This allows it to be close and scented, but not be overwhelming.

So while I do hate lavender, with a passion, the uses and the purity of it are highly beneficial. I have discovered that even I can tolerate that which I detest, for the benefits of a good night’s sleep, a little less anxiety and a general calm within the air.

Today’s Tarot:

Ten of Cups – On the Ten of Cups, there is a couple holding each other while facing a beautiful house and a green garden. Beside them, there are two children playing joyously. The couple is seen holding each other in a loving and romantic embrace, while the children are freely playing. The couple seems to be in a stable relationship, while also blessed with the abundance of a comfortable home and beautiful children. The green land signifies fertility, and the river shows how freely the feelings of the couple are flowing, meaning that their relationship is quite peaceful. Above in the sky, there are ten cups, shaped in an arc, which are meant to symbolize blessings from heaven. The rainbow behind them shows the end of hard times and sorrows, and a new happy life where each and every one

Late Nights

Ah the joys of sleep…what are those?  Today, I couldn’t tell you.  After a wonderful evening out, a little shopping, some hanging out with the kids before they went off to do their own thing, up to bed I went.  Hubby turned on a movie I wasn’t even interested in seeing so he could go to sleep and I closed my eyes.  Then I opened them, less than 30 seconds later.  He was already asleep…granted he had worked the night before and had not done any sleeping yet, so I can understand that.  I don’t begrudge him sleeping when he hasn’t for 36+ hours. However, he sleeps with the remotes in his side, because he is usually up at night and I get up at 4:45 in the morning.

Did you know Lost in Space is actually an engaging movie at 9:30 at night? So engaging I didn’t make it to sleep until almost 1. Now, for those of you who engage in this late night behavior all the time you’ll be laughing. Remember though, my alarm is going off at 4:45. So I slog through 2 snoozes, rush through my shower and morning, grab a quick protein shake and zoom off to work and prep for the sub. Today I am out of the classroom to run state testing make-ups.

Once everything is going I realize I am still behind. No lunch, the Apple keyboard for the Pro isn’t working (known issue) and I’m just in a funk. I feel frazzled, even though I shouldn’t. Today is not a day I can step outside to get centered or that I can just take a break. So what do you do with no sleep and a discombobulated day? Well I would text my bestie, but she is on her way out of the country, so not happening.

The fact is, I haven’t figured it out yet.  I am hoping once I can get up and stretch that som doc this offness goes away on its own. I can’t be certain if it’s being in a room with the energy of kids, some of whom are stressed over this test and others who just don’t want to even be here, or if it is something else. For sure here at work there is an undercurrent of stress.  We are getting a new principal, there are some teacher things, and it is just the end of the year.

If, the end of the work day doesn’t bring a change, then tonight I will definitely be taking the time to meditate and take a walk around the park. A cleansing bath, with epsom salt and essential oils may also be on the list. One of the things I miss when I am out of my classroom is my diffuser.  I know it helps me get through my days, and it does the kids good room always feels and smells good.  So tonight at home the diffusers will also be going.

If you don’t use essential oils may isiggest you start small, but definite start. That’s another topic I’ll be delving i to soon, but they are something I believe if only for the mental breath we seem to take when something smells nice.

Today’s tarot card: The Lover’s:

Upright: Love, union, relationships, values alignment, choices

Reversed: Disharmony, imbalance, misalignment of values

Your first instinct will most likely be to associate this card as representing love, but, much like love, it does not possess a simple nature. Not only does love comes in many forms, but the Lovers may indicate important or difficult choices ahead in your life. This is bad, in that the choices it portends are generally mutually exclusive, paths to two very different futures, but also good, in that it also confirms that at least one of those paths will take you to a good place. As such, if you happen to find it in your spread, you should consider it carefully, but not fear it. It tells a story of difficult choices, likely painful, but that the correct decision and a positive outcome are within your grasp.

Self-Loathing

You know when it is really bad and you can’t see past all the things you have done wrong, or you haven’t listened to, or you didn’t get done? Those times when it seems like you are more of a burden and create more of a hassle for others than helping and taking care of yourself and your business? Yeah, me too.

When it seems like just emptying the dishwasher and making dinner are taking up so much energy there isn’t anything left to do what you wanted to get done. Last night didn’t see me clearing away space in front of the altar or getting my mediation/exercise space cleaned.  In fact it barely saw me feed the dogs and go upstairs. I did write some on my book, and then I read a little. I felt it was an accomplishment this morning to get up with enough time to shower. Yep, we all have those days, me included.

Since it was one of “those” day, I decided to count the things going right.  By the time I arrived at work, I was in a good mood and ready to talk with and help the teenagers who come through my life every day. While I am not infallible, and I have the same kind of days as everyone else, sometimes the fact that I got up and got to work on time, are enough to reset the day. Try to remember to count the small things: a shower, a matching outfit, you brushed your teeth, traffic was not bad, or you listened to your favorite podcast when it was, those are all wins, give yourself credit for them.

Hubby and I have agreed on a night out to dinner and a shopping trip to his favorite lingerie store. I have made sure this evening looks different, to help reset tomorrow.

Today’s tarot card: king of cups –

The personality of the King of Cups is a combination of the positive water energy of the Cups suit and the active, outward focus of a King. He is wise and understanding, with a deep knowledge of the world that comes from the heart. He is a teacher and way-shower who guides his students with loving attention. He cares about others sincerely and always responds to their needs with compassion. He heals with a gentle touch and a quiet word. He is calm and relaxed in all situations, seeming to know intuitively what is called for at any moment. Others turn to him for advice because they know he will listen attentively. There is always a peacefulness around him that others respond to. He is tolerant of all points of view and shows patience in the most trying circumstances. He gives others freedom to grow and develop in their own ways without asking anything in return.

In readings, the King of Cups asks you to take the kinds of actions he might take. For example: responding calmly in a crisis, using diplomacy rather than force, reaching out to help, or accepting a different point of view. This King can also represent a man or woman who acts as he does, or an atmosphere of caring, tolerance and understanding. In a reading, he tells you that his special energy has meaning for you at this time. Let yourself be inspired by this King in whatever form he appears in your life.

Meditation

We all know we should, even if it isn’t part of a religious practice, it is now common knowledge that meditation, or purposeful breathing, is a practice every person should put into their day for at least 15 minutes.

The Mayo Clinic says “The emotional benefits of meditation can include:

Meditation is a simple practice in its purpose.  It simply helps us keep grounded and do a check in with ourselves. We can stay present better, our minds don’t wander as much or worry as much if we meditate.

However, the practicality of incorporating meditation into the busy lives we all have is not quite as simple.  One would think, given that I am a practicing pagan/Wiccan that I would make this a part of my daily life.  The truth is I am also a full time High School teacher, a mom of 4 boys (2 of whom are at home still), and a wife. What that means in reality is that when I have 15 minutes, I don’t sit and meditate. I have it on my planner as a daily practice, but I haven’t been able to check it off in weeks.  I have three apps on my phone, two of which remind me I need to do this; I simply snooze them.

I am very aware that I need to get this practice back into my daily routines.  My feelings of being unsettled, ungrounded and flighty would all go away.  I also know that to do this I need to spend about 5 hours cleaning the space in my bedroom where my altar and meditation space is set up.  This has turned into the “house everything not in use” space for us. That alone is enough to make me give up.

This ties into yesterday’s post about everyday being a new day.  Today, when my husband goes to work (so really tonight), I clean my room until it is where I want it to be and where I need it.  My mental health isn’t horrid, but it is enough that it is beginning to wear on me.  When that happens, things slip and slide into oblivion.  I don’t want to clean, I don’t want to get off the couch, I don’t want to do anything.  This is a spot I have been in often lately, but I am working on it.

Today is the New Day/Fresh Start I was talking about yesterday.
