So life happens and then well life happens. In all of that sometimes you forget the things that are important that don’t seems quite as important. Exercise, eating healthy, getting your thoughts in order and written down.
So now I am trying to catch up. I have some papers to finish grading, some meal planning and grocery shopping to do, some cleaning that didn’t get done. In addition of course, the dogs need cleaning up after and the rest of the house needs to be picked up. There is stuff to list on eBay and a few small things that need looking at.
I did manage to get my Third Lesson in my Third Degree at Sacred Mists turned into my grader, which is very exciting as I loved that lesson. Lesson 4 is going to take a lot of research so I am reading over the questions, have a few books to dig into and a lot of internet time to get started on. I do love the history questions, and they are so important to where we are now as a practice, but sometimes it is hard to get through.
I am not sure if I am on track to actually start my next step in the summer like I thought. We are buying a house and taking a rather fun vacation (as the oldest child at home is going into the Navy), so money may not make it possible to start the next step until the fall, however it is still my intent to get a degree in spiritual mentoring. Sometimes we have to prioritize differently than we originally planned.
What do you do when things get out of whack? I still have my planner and I love it. I have ordered one that looks just a little different but from the same place (personal-planner.com). I love that I can customize. I still have some more to do when it arrives, but I am set for what I need/want it to look like. It will have all the spaces I need.
My favorite planner stickers right now are the Grumble and Kind (Grumble and Kind). They are fun and whimsical and the shop owner is an amazingly talented and responsive woman. I have several others as well that I will detail this week. I am excited to show off some of the planning when the new planner arrives.

I was recently reminded that taking the time to hand-write a note of thanks, or thinking of you, is extremely important. Writing connects our bodies to our brains and our brains to our emotions. We often talk of journeying to get our feeling out. Well that shows in what you write.
The act of writing a note to someone, even “have a nice day”, makes you smile, makes them smile and reminds everyone that no matter how bad there is someone who cares. The handwriting, the penmanship, the ink color, all bring the emotions and sentiment to life. A typed email or text message is always loved and a wonderful sentiment, but the feeling behind a hand-written note…the idea someone took the time to hand-write a note, long hand, means so much more.
I try to send “love” notes, as I call them to lots of people. Little notes which say, “hey”. Erin Condren has some great notes which have a fun saying on the front and room to write on the back.

I highly recommend sending one or two of these a day. People truly appreciate them. I give them to fellow teachers and to students. The smiles and thank you’s and positive energy are well worth the extra time it takes to pick one and hand write the note on the back.

Journaling…what does it mean to you? As I have been using my planners and keeping track of things, one of the things that I love most about both planners I am using is that they have review of the week, and daily “what are you excited about” and “what will you improve on” and “wins for today”. In addition, I bought the Danielle LePorte Planner and I have washi taped the “schedule” section and use it for daily reflection. The whole set up is designed in such a way that it is perfect for daily journaling.
It asks for your soul prompt (how are you feeling), it asks for 3 things to do (always with a prompt for what is best for you) and it asks for goals. In addition, it has what are you going to work on stopping. I fill each of these out at the beginning of the day and then at the end of the day do a reflection. For me this has been invaluable. Even if I journal as a reflection the next day, it has given me the perspective that I need.
In looking back at what I was feeling at the beginning and where I am when I reflect, I can see how I let things affect me through the day and where I am at. This type of journaling has given me some structure as well as the ability to gauge myself and my emotions. The difference, for me, is incredible. I have always been a writer. I love to journal, I write notes to express myself if I am having trouble doing so verbally. I will often write my husband long letters, take pictures of what I wrote and send them to him. For me I have found the written word to be an easier form of communication. However, journaling has been difficult. I never know where to start. The Danielle LePorte allows me the structure and still the freedom.
I know that she offers a journal with prompts, but for me the day planner with the daily prompts has worked fabulous. I love my Panda Planners for the planner function as well as the daily and weekly review. I review my actual productivity with those. I am able to keep track of both what I need to do in my personal life with what I need to do for Sacred Mists and even with my school needs. At school, in the classroom, I use both a Happy Planner and an Erin Condren LifePlanner, along with the Personal Planner. However, with the changes I made to the Danielle LePorte, I have created, for me, a perfect journal.
Do you journal? What is your favorite way to write things down? If you don’t journal I challenge you to try it. We often tell those who are struggling with their emotions or with where they are in life to begin writing. It is cathartic and can help take those jumbled thoughts and make some sense of them.
